Rupert, (Moyns Prince Rupert) Studbook No: 8895 Foaled: 15.07.2000 Sire: Clenchwarton Rookery Rupert Dam: Marshland Petra 17.00 hh 825kgs
Rupert, and his half brother Obadiah, joined the stables in December 2002. Still whole at the time there was a good deal of turmoil as the four animals jostled for rank. It was the gentle Jack who proved to be the most contentious horse, happy to be number two to Sultan but never to be usurped by these young upstarts. Eventually the youngsters were gelded and a relative calm descended on the Barrack Lane Yard.
Rupert has proved to be “poseur extraordinaire” forgetting his cart horse origins he strides out at the trot with head held high, he canters with grace and has a blistering pace at the gallop. There have been problems! In March 2006 he developed colic while Stephen was away with Sultan and Jack. Immediate surgery was required, never a good thing for a large horse. It took months of care to nurse him back to full health but by the summer of 2005 he was competing, as a pair with Obadiah and as part of the team with his stable mates. He is young and still growing and maturing but has already developed a taste for his work especially when part of the four in hand team.
He demands and expects attention from every one, his intensive care from his illness only helped to strengthen this trait. In return you have one of the most eye catching Suffolk Punches to be seen.
