Round Ringwood Tour Departs Ringwood Market Place* - Midday
A few photos from the High Street part of our Round Ringwood Tour. The tour retraces the steps of Bussey Cheater, the last horsebus driver in Ringwood. His route ran from the Railway Station to the original Crown Tap Inn at the Market Place. This was demolished by John Morant when he undertook the Market Place improvements and Bank House now stands in it's place. The Crown Tap moved to the other end of the town where it still has a coaching arch.
The Ringwood Rover was originally a horsedrawn tram, our researches continue but as far as we have been able to find out, the Rover began its life working on Southampton Docks around 1885. We believe she was converted to a bus during the electrification of the tramways and then continued to work in the Docks until she was retired. We purchased her in a sad state in 2007 and have had her restored. For the story of her restoration see our vehicles page. The tour takes approximately 30 minutes. The Rover is available for group and private hire.
