4th May 2009 - The Milford Trial - Finally!

We carried out the trial on Bank Holiday Monday. Although the weather was just about acceptable first thing in the morning, as the day wore on it became colder, windier and the cloud cover thickened bringing showers around 2.00pm.

Apart from our first trial run, it was far too cold for passengers as Ray, the carnival co-ordinator can testify. We made two circuits and were able to obtain a disposal site for the horses droppings with a private individual at the Cenotaph.

Passengers can mount and dismount at the ferry and the spit to go to the beach over the bridge or down to the castle. It was very cold and windy and the parking was full, even on such a cold day, but we were able to navigate the circuit without causing serious inconvenience or holding anyone up any more than they are from the normal flow of traffic round these very congested roads.

The passengers we did have, enjoyed the ride and wherever we stopped we were met with great enthusiasm and a warm welcome. I hope you will receive feedback from the locals and residents and we will be able to decide whether we are going forward. We think the project is practical and that we will not add to the traffic congestion, so we will see what happens next....
